What matters most?Hi Reader, A line in last week's email really stuck with me. Often, we can use busyness as a way to signal that we matter and that our time is valuable. But what is the actual measure of your time being valuable? What is the actual measure of you bringing value to others? I can have a successful week by knocking out the to-do list and making sure every minute is filled, but then I find myself wondering if I've actually invested myself in the right things. For me, the answer isn't found in my calendar or my to-do list. It's found in how I show up for others, my family, my friends, and my community. That's where it matters most. In my relationships. To-do lists can easily distract you, pull you off course, and crowd out what matters most. (Remember the farmer from last week?) The to-do list needs to get done, and I need to show up well for others. Those are completely different demands. And if we're honest, we know which we've been neglecting and which we're investing in the most. This week, figure out where your presence and your time are most valuable. Not the most urgent. The most important. Then choose it. Put it on your calendar and protect it. Your time is valuable. Guard where you give it. --Jason PS. Today's Badge of Honor Hi Reader, "How are you doing?" "Busy." Is that a badge of honor for you... or a deep sigh? Because somewhere along the way our culture decided that busy is the right answer. The impressive answer. The one that signals you matter and your time is valuable. But here's the thing. Busy is easy to fake. And if it's genuinely exhausting you (if it's leading to frustration and burnout) why do we keep holding it up as the goal? I went to college in Texas and had the chance to...
The 5 Voices & Self-Awareness Hi Reader, Six weeks ago, I asked you to write down your communication strengths and struggles before we started. If you did that, pull it back out. Look at what you wrote. By now, you've read about five different voice patterns and about how they communicate, where they thrive, and where they tend to get in their own way. And if you noticed, something probably clicked somewhere along the way. A description that felt uncomfortably accurate. A blind spot you...
The 5 Voices & Self-Awareness Hi Reader, The Pioneer is the rarest foundational voice in the 5 Voices framework. Only about 7% of people natively represent the Pioneer. But if you’ve spent any time around one, you noticed them immediately. Pioneers are decisive. They’re wired for vision, strategy, and winning. When a team is stuck deliberating, the Pioneer is the one who finally says “here’s what we’re doing,” and people follow. That clarity is a relief. In moments of uncertainty, that voice...
